The Washington Treaty
1949

NATO is founded on 4 April 1949

1954

ATA was created on 18 June 1954. Since the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact, the role of the Atlantic Treaty Association has changed considerably. In 1992 the ATA Constitution was amended to accommodate associate members and observers from non-NATO countries.

The Atlantic Treaty Association sets up Atlantic Association of Young Political Leaders (AAYPL) in Oxford, United Kingdom

1985

Predating the existence of YATA as an organization, the Danish Atlantic Treaty Association organizes the first ‘Danish Atlantic Youth Seminar’ (DAYS).
YATA Denmark still organizes DAYS on a yearly basis.

1989

The Berlin wall comes down on 9 November 1989, symbolizing the end of the Cold War and pathing the way for the reunification of Berlin, Germany and Europe.

1996

Building forward on the success of the Danish Youth Atlantic Seminar, Prof. Fabrizio Luciolli founds YATA during the 1996 General Assembly held in Rome.

2003

In order to reunite youth from the transatlantic community who were interested in major international issues, the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association organized its first seminar, entitled “The Future of NATO” on September 15th 2003, in Brussels.

2015

Under the leadership of YATA President Rowinda Appelman and ATA President Dr. Karl Lamers a partnership is formed between NATO PA and ATA, allowing the YATA President to address the Assembly and giving YATA members privileged access to NATO PA sessions as observers and allowing local YATA members to volunteer at their parliament when hosting NATO PA sessions.
